Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Serves: 1 crust
  • 1¼ cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tspn salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • ¼ cup ice water
  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut butter in (or use your hands) until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually stir in water, until mixture pushes together in a nice ball.
  4. At this point, the dough ball can be wrapped in plastic and refrigerated until ready to use.
  5. Roll dough out onto a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pan. More flour may be sprinkled on top to keep dough from sticking to the rolling pin.pie crust dough trimming
  6. Once you place the dough onto the pan, you may need to trim any uneven edges and blend these dough pieces back in where you need some more. (It's hard to get a perfect circle when you're rolling.)
  7. Pour in your filling and cook according to your pie's directions.
